GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - The producers of the Hangout Music and Arts Festival put a lot of time into making the weekend unique and draw on local talent to do just that.
You will find several works from Alabama native Nall throughout the fest. Nall was born in lower Alabama and has fond memories of his trips to Gulf Shores. He is amazed that the once quiet town is now full of culture.
"It's an incredible thing. It's a cultural thing for Alabama," said Nall.
Some of Nall's most famous work is showcased in one of the artist lounges. It is called "The Icons." Nall said he did the pieces in 2006 following 9-11. It is meant to show "that human beings will go to any extent to be stupid."
Bruce Larson is also featured around the festival. He is another Alabama resident and you can't miss his work. Larson works on a lot of movies where he builds mechanical sculptures.
His most recent films include "Lincoln" and "Oculus", which was shot in Alabama and will be coming out soon. One of the pieces featured as you walk in to the festival at the "T" was used in filming "Oculus." Larson adapted it to showcase the hand symbol of the Hangout.
Larson said he finds his often finds his inspiration walking down the beach and looking at drift wood.
Larson is a junk collector and turns throw away objects into art.
