GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - Gulf Shores' newest restaurant opened this week along the intracoastal waterway. Lucy B Goode is restaurateur Lucy Buffett's newest venture. The restaurant offers an upscale dining experience in a casual atmosphere.
At first glance, Lucy B Goode looks like your typical, laid back beach café and in some sense, it is.
But, you won’t find nachos and fried shrimp baskets coming out of this kitchen. The menu is a combination of Buffett’s own recipes mixed with several other of her favorites, all ordered a la carte.
The small plate concept is something Buffett has wanted to do for some time, but it just didn’t fit in at her original restaurant, LuLu’s.
“Well, I wanted to specifically have this be a different concept,” Lucy Buffett said. “Not just be an overflow restaurant serving the same kind of food.”
The restaurant, decorated in Gulf Coast rustic fashion, only seats 120 people at capacity. The food is made to order using only fresh local ingredients - another way Buffett makes sure diners get a true local flavor.
“I’ve taken the recipes and just made them a little cleaner, using fresh ingredients and sourced locally,” Buffett said.
The restaurant just opened Monday, August 19, but visitors have already discovered it and judging by their reaction, Buffett may be on to something.
“Ribs - they were unbelievable. They fell off the bone. So tender, juicy,” said diner Lauren Decelle.
“We had the red snapper and the kids had the macaroni and cheese, which was all perfect,” commented Jennifer Evans from Texas.
“I thought it was delicious. Everything was to be expected for Lucy,” another patron said.
While some items you’ll find on the menu will be daily specials, there are others that will be on there every day, like Lucy’s famous pimento cheese burger.
The City of Gulf Shores couldn’t be happier with the new addition. It’s the next step in bringing their Waterway Village concept to reality.
“The Waterway Village district is an area of town along the inter-coastal waterway that we feel will be a great new addition off of the main beach for people to go and have restaurants and eventually entertainment and dining in that region as well,” said Gulf Shores’ spokesperson, Grant Brown.
Buffett said the only two menu items that LuLu’s and Lucy B Goode will share is the gumbo and the key lime pie. She said they just can’t make it any better. The new restaurant is built next door to LuLu’s where the pavilion used to be.
