JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WALA) - Agents with the Jackson County Narcotics Division arrested two men in separate drug cases in Moss Point on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2012.
Officials said complaints about drug activity led agents to visit a house on Sherlawn Avenue in west Moss Point. Authorities said several people were standing in the yard and fled on foot when narcotics agents arrived.
Laterrance Donta Adams, 22, was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine after agents said they watched him toss away a match box with about two grams of crack inside. Officials said the crack is worth about $100.
Adams remains at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center pending a bail hearing. He faces up to 16 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, if convicted.
That same night, narcotics agents witnessed 18-year-old Korbin Hakeem Jackson speeding and driving erratically on 2nd Street in Moss Point. Deputies said Jackson tried to avoid agents by pulling into a nearby driveway.
Authorities said when narcotics agents approached Jackson's pick-up truck, they were overwhelmed by the smell of green marijuana. Deputies said Jackson had about a quarter of a pound of green marijuana wrapped in plastic, a digital scale and sandwich bags inside the vehicle.
At the time of his arrest, Jackson was out of jail on bail from a George County case. The George County Sheriff's Department charged him last year with resisting arrest, possession of a concealed weapon without a permit and possession of marijuana.
Jackson remains at the county jail pending a bail hearing. He faces up to 24 years in prison and up to a $500,000 fine.
