MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County District Attorney's office said in August, a grand jury found sufficient evidence to charge 83-year-old Richard Stuart Allen with sex abuse of a child less than 12.
Assistant District Attorney Nicki Patterson said the victim in this case was 6 years old when the alleged abuse took place about one year ago.
Patterson said the female victim alleges that Allen fondled her as they watched TV in a recliner with her sitting on his lap.
Patterson said the victim's family considered Allen a family friend. The girl called him "Grandpa" even though they were not related.
Allen was arrested at 11 a.m.Wednesday, September 18 and has been released on bond. Patterson his charge has a pre-set bond, which is set locally.
Allen will be arraigned in circuit court. His court date has not been posted publicly.
