MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - An 11-year old girl who was shot while in bed is recovering at USA Medical Center after undergoing a second surgery in less than 24 hours.
Jeffrey White, the father of Treasure Ruffin, said a bullet was removed from his daughter’s chest Monday, September 23.
Ruffin remains in serious condition, but White said she is expected to survive.
Relatives told FOX10 the 11-year-old had just started sixth grade at Mae Eanes Middle School and was getting ready for bed Sunday, September 22.
“My mom said she heard three shots,” said White. “One of them came through the window. My baby was sitting on the bed watching TV and it hit her in the chest. It hit her in the heart really."
Ruffin’s heart and a lung were hit.
White said she ran to her grandmother and told her she had been shot.
Mobile police say they have no reason to believe someone intentionally fired into the home. Authorities, however, are investigating any possible ties to crime in the area.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Mobile Police.
