Mobile County, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff's Office is investigating an allegation involving a bus driver and two students.
A Mary G. Montgomery High School student Haley Stapleton, 17, claims she suffered a head and neck injury after a heated argument with a bus driver Monday, October 8.
Stapleton’s sister, Tammie Stapleton, said she tried to step-in to help, but the bus driver grabbed her arm and sprained her wrist.
Haley Stapleton claims she re-injured her ankle during the incident and is now in crutches.
Stapleton’s mother said she took the kids to Springhill Medical Center after the incident. Haley is on crutches and Tammie now wears a wrist brace.
Haley Stapleton claims the bus driver assaulted the students after refused to get off the phone.
“She took her arm right here by her elbow and pushed me against the window and hurt my spinal cord. And then it bounced my head…the top of my head bounced against the window,” said Stapleton.
MCSO said it took a report on the incident and detectives will be investigating the by interviewing both sides and reviewing the tape.
Mobile County Public Schools Spokesperson Nancy Pierce said the system’s transportation and security department are looking into the matter.
"We want to find out what happened and if anything needs to be done if it's a staff member involved...whatever, so an investigation is ongoing right now,” said Pierce.
MCPSS will not release the surveillance video of the incident saying it is under investigation.
