MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Mobile real estate agent kicked his way to a new car, winning a contest during half time at the Alabama - Virginia Tech game in Atlanta.
Mitchell Crigler sure knows how to kick a football. He made every attempt to split the uprights at Mims Park during his interview with FOX10 News.
“I never played football in high school or anything other than kicking the ball with the fellas,” Crigler said.
Crigler answered a trivia question correctly inside the fan zone at Saturday’s Crimson Tide game.
“And they said, 'You're right! You've won.' And I said ,'What do you mean I won?' And they said, 'You just won a chance to kick for a car.' and so I was like, 'Ok,'” said Crigler.
Twelve other contestants had entered online months in advance.
“So they had been practicing for a month,” said Crigler.
Crigler had no preparation before hand and didn't even plan on going to the game until a last minute ticket deal came his way.
“And so they had come ready to kick field goals and I just happened that morning to... I was trying to decide do I wear shoes or flip-flops. I'm glad I wore my shoes,” said Crigler.
Crigler's wife and friends were with him and watched him kick to victory.
“I think it was pretty surreal,” said Alex Yianitsas of Mobile.
“But it was nerve wracking, too. But it all happened with just a trivia question ... Just one answer on a trivia question turned into such a big prize and it was really exciting,” said Katie Yianitsas of Mobile.
Mitchell Crigler took it all in stride.
“Yeah, I really didn't believe I was going to win the whole time. I'm not even going to worry about it and see what happens, and it just so happens I won,” said Crigler.
He beat out all twelve contestants; winning with a 55-yard distance kick against one other contestant.
“It was good all the way around: BAMA rolled and now I get to roll in my new car, I'm so happy,” said Crigler.
Crigler now must wait about a month for delivery of his new vehicle.
