PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Instead of trick-or-treaters walking the streets on Halloween night, men dressed in uniform with vests and shields surrounded a home on Lincoln Street. The mobile SWAT team responded to a home where police arrested four suspects after a 14-year-old male was shot in the head on Bellmead Road.
“They'll (the SWAT team) will go in the house to make sure there's no one else in the home, that it's secure and search for any evidence,” said Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale.
Speziale said around 2:30 Thursday, October 31 police responded to a call on Bellmead Road where the teen was shot. The juvenile was taken to USA Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses said a black car drove down Bellmead Road before opening fire on a home. They said the people inside the car were wearing white masks.
“I just heard the shots about 20 shots all of a sudden so I just got down on the floor as usual. This happens every two or three days,” a resident said.
It’s the second shooting at the intersection of Bellmead Road and Leeds Avenue in two days and the third one in about two weeks. Residents who asked to remain anonymous said they’re fed up with the crime.
“We’re tired, we need to know what we can do to get them out of the neighborhood. Enough is enough. We have kids, grandkids; just today kids were just getting out of school. They could have been passing by during the shooting,” one resident said.
Speziale said the Prichard Police Department is working in conjunction with the Mobile Police Department, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Ooffice and U.S. Marshalls on the case.
Investigators said two vehicles were recovered. One of the cars was a stolen and used in Thursday’s shooting.
“This is something we’re going to continuously aggressively go after, this criminal element. If we have to go across state lines or the ocean, we’re going to reach out and grab you and bring you back to justice,” Speziale said.
Police aren’t giving a motive behind Thursday’s shooting and won’t say if it’s related to the shooting the day before.
The four suspects are identified as adult men and are being held at the Prichard Police Department.
