MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - On the morning of September 3, 2013, Mobile Police said they found an unidentified male near Halls Mill Road and Azalea Road.
Authorities said they were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m. and found the victim, identified as 45-year-old Gary Demetrius House, lying face down on a slab of cement that lines Moore Creek.
“This morning about 8:40, we received a call for a man down,” said Mobile Police spokesperson Cpl. Chris Levy. “It is an area where people are known to go fishing.”
Detectives collected some fishing gear from the scene and later towed what's believed to be the man's truck.
Medics brought House up from below; carrying him up first on a backboard and then taking him away on a gurney.
Police won't say how House died or if he was killed.
“We're going to go ahead and investigate it as a homicide until anything else can be determined; but at least for now, it does appear to be a homicide,” said Levy.
Mobile Police divers combed the creek Tuesday looking for evidence that will help them solve this case.
