MESQUITE, Texas (WALA) - The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force said Dwayne Pinestraw, a Pensacola man accused of shooting and killing a baby, has been arrested.
Pinestraw, 20, aka "Money" was arrested by the Dallas U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force Monday evening without incident.
The shooting happened outside the Pensacola Village housing complex on July 15.
Authorities believe Pinestraw shot into an apartment window with what was said to be a .45 caliber handgun, striking and killing 19-month-old Ty'Quarius Moultrie.
Also shot and wounded during the assault was 23-year-old Vincent Dennis.
Pinestraw, using the alias Nicholas Williams, was found hiding out at a house believed to be the home of a girl he befriended in recent months.
The Marshals were able to capture Pinestraw only 48 hours after he was aired on America's Most Wanted. The show was a two-hour special highlighting the U.S. Marshals and spearheading some of their priority cases.
"Although we had leads to the Dallas area we could never pinpoint his location," said Inspector Dominic Guadagnoli of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force in Pensacola. "It's simple - without AMW he'd still be a fugitive."
Pinestraw was being sought for homicide, aggravated battery, and firing into a dwelling. He was brought to the Dallas County Jail and is being held on no bond.
Pensacola Police say the governors of Texas and Florida will work out extradition for Pinestraw.
They notified the family of Ty'Quarius Moultrie of his arrest.
"The family was very elated that we had located Mr. Pinestraw, the resolution of his arrest is very, very rewarding not only for me personally but for our department to bring such a person as Mr. Pinestraw before the courts and to bring some resolution to the nurder of this child," said Detective Doug Baldwin, Pensacola Police.
