MILTON, Fla. (WALA) - The Florida Highway patrol said charges are pending after a 76-year-old woman died in an accident on State Road 87 Saturday evening.
Authorities said Lilia R. Valderama was a passenger in the 1998 Chevy Tracker when it was struck near SR 87 and Firehouse Rd. Saturday night.
The vehicle in which Valderama rode was in the left turn lane of State Road 87 approaching the intersection of Firehouse Rd. The FHP said the driver didn't notice the Kia Optima driving southbound, and attempted to make a left turn onto Firehouse Rd.
Officials said the driver of the Optima was unable to stop and struck the vehicle on Valderama's side, pushing it onto the shoulder.
The Optima continued forward until it struck a guide wire along the side of the road.
Valderama was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where she died. The three other people involved all suffered minor injuries.
The Highway Patrol said charges could come from the accident, pending further investigation.
