MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Ninth grader Tadasha McCorvey aspired to make the dance team at Theodore High School. Her mother Consuelo says she lights up the stage.
But an accident may have ruined those dreams.
"You don't know how this is going to come out, you don't know how her leg is going to come out," Consuelo McCorvey said. "She could have a limp the rest of her life. If she has a limp she can't do half the things she wants to do in life, no matter where she wants to be, what she wants to do."
Like any other day, Tadasha was on her walk home from school with a friend on Thursday when a car and a SUV collided. One of the cars struck the 15-year-old and sent her on a plunge into a brick-filled drainage ditch.
She suffered multiple injuries. The worst of which was to her right leg.
"Her leg is not broken, it is not broken," Consuelo McCorvey said. "Her ankle is crushed, and she has a gash in her leg this big to the bone."
Tadasha had surgery that night, which went smoothly. She's in a great deal of pain and is running a fever, but doctors say she's on the road to recovery.
But there's another road her mother is not so pleased with, Tadasha's daily commute home from school.
It's one she has to make on foot.
"No buses pick them up because they are so close," Consuelo said. "They have to walk to school and walk home. Highway 90 is right there! They have to go, then they have to come around to that street? So I really think they need a bus."
Tadasha's family plans to take their concerns to the school board.
No matter the outcome of that discussion, Consuelo says her daughter will not be walking home from school anymore.
Following the accident McCorvey, says her nephew and oldest daughter, 21-year-old Jessica Gibbs, got into an altercation with police at the scene.
She says that was due to stress because they thought Tadasha was killed in the accident.
Both were booked and released from jail.
