TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WALA) - The Florida Lottery announced that Melissa Weinmann, 43, of Pensacola, claimed a $1 million Powerball prize from the drawing held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.
Florida’s three other $1 million winning tickets from this drawing have not yet been claimed.
According to Weinmann, her husband is stationed at NAS Pensacola and is a Staff Sergeant in the Marines. They had been experiencing financial struggles due to her recent furlough.
However, they are now looking forward to taking their grandson to Disney World in Orlando for his fifth birthday. Weinmann also stated that she intends to pay off their debt and set up a college fund for their grandson.
Weinmann purchased her winning Quick Pick ticket from Circle K, located at 4500 East Olive Road in Pensacola. The retailer received a $1,000 bonus commission for selling the $1 million POWERBALL ticket.
The next POWERBALL drawing will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 10:59 p.m. ET with a $40 million jackpot.
