PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Prichard police have identified a suspect in a July 11 shooting that left bullet holes in an elderly woman's home and a shirt she was wearing at the time.
One of several stray bullets fired into 73-year-old Deloris Massey's home went through the sleeve of the t-shirt she was wearing and knocked a glass of lemonade out of her hand.
Investigators believe 24-year-old Frederick Oneal Knight Jr. was the man who fired into Massey's house.
Sgt. Victor Myles said an argument led to the hail of gunfire.
"The victim wasn't running. Like I said, they came to the corner of the street and just started shooting down the street. I think they shot maybe 12 or 13 times down the street," Myles said.
"I felt the heat. See, it went across my chest," Massey said.
She said even police thought it was a miracle she wasn't hit.
"The bullet already had been shot, and then I hit the floor, and they just kept shooting. So three came in here," Massey said.
According to police, Knight was shooting at another man on North Joseph Street when some of the bullets went through Massey's home. Police said the intended victim was injured.
"He was shot once in the chest. It was rough there for a minute, but he was able to make it through," Myles said.
According to police the victim was recently released from the hospital, and that's the break investigators needed.
"After he got out the hospital, I spoke with him. Like I said, he knew the name of the guy, and he picked him out in a photo lineup so we know exactly who it was," Myles said.
Knight is facing a first-degree assault charge, and a charge of firing in to an occupied dwelling.
It's been nearly three weeks since the shooting, and Knight is still on the loose. If you know where he is Prichard Police want to hear from you. You can call in any information you have to 452-2211 or 452-7882.
