CINCINNATI (WALA) - In just his second game as a pro, Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson was impressive against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.
The rookie, who helped carry the Alabama Crimson Tide to two national championships, rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries. He rushed for a touchdown and caught another, the first Browns rookie to accomplish that while rushing for more than 100 yards.
Richardson's dominant performance comes off of a less than perfect debut against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 9. It's also one month after limited work in the preseason, due to arthroscopic knee surgery.
Despite those odds, Richardson was the only running back to get a carry — 19 carries, to be exact — in last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, Richardson displayed the hard running Tide fans got used to, lowering his head and knocking the helmet off of safety Kurt Coleman during a run.
The Pensacola native would prove to be even more physical in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. During a record-setting 23-yard touchdown catch and run, Richardson's strength and cutting ability forced several broken tackles, closing the Bengals lead to 24-17 early in the third quarter.
The running back's work ethic and intense physical tenacity are the catalyst for what could become a positive rookie season.
