DAILY DOT COM - Last week in London, Samsung announced a pair of Windows 8 slates : the Ativ Q and the Ativ Tab 3.
Monday, June 24 the tech giant announced it's bringing out three new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets in 7, 8, and 10.1-inch screen sizes.
The new tablets have the same three buttons on the front as the Galaxy smartphones. Last year's Tab 2 had no physical buttons on the front, as encouraged by Google, which supplies the Android software.
The 10-inch model is the first Android-powered Samsung tablet to use an Intel processor. The smaller models use chips. All the models include an infrared blaster for controlling your TV as well as preloaded remote-control software.
Samsung is pushing this latest Tab 3 trio as a less expensive alternative to the Note 8. The tablets are Wi-Fi only but buyers get a year of Boingo hotspot service, along with Hulu Plus, and two years of Dropbox service, with up to 50 GB storage space, for free.
Samsung is the second-largest maker of tablets after Apple. Its latest tablets will go on sale in the U.S. on July 7 with prices starting at $199, and will be available from retailers including Best Buy, and Amazon. Pre-orders start June 25.
