BAY MINETTE, Alabama (WALA) - The Daphne man accused of killing his roommate Steve McCullough will stay behind bars charged with capital murder. Judge Jody Bishop ruled no bond for Shaun Carmadelle Wednesday.
The hearing was held by teleconference from the Foley Satellite Courthouse due to Judge Bishop having court in that location.
Investigators with the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office were present in Bay Minette alongside District Attorney Hallie Dixon.
"It was his initial appearance for a bond hearing, the judge issued a no-bond as is consistent with a case like this. It's capital murder and he is on a revocation of his probation as well," said Dixon.
Lt. Jud Beedy with the Daphne Police Department was also in Bay Minette for the hearing.
After the teleconference, Dixon told FOX10 News Reporter Chasity Byrd she is pleased with how quickly action was taken in this case and that there was a tremendous amount of teamwork between her office and the Daphne Police Department.
Dixon says the day after the murder happened, Carmadelle requested that Dixon be present for his confession statement. Dixon says she doesn't know why Carmadelle asked for her specifically,
"The next day he had requested my presence for a confession and so I went back. We had met the night before and for whatever reason he requested I be present for the confession," Dixon said.
According to Daphne Police, Carmadelle wanted to borrow the victim's vehicle to drive to Mobile to buy drugs and solicit prostitutes. When McCullough refused, police say Carmadelle strangled him and took off in the vehicle.
