OKALOOSA CO., Fla. (WALA) -
Dozens of officers in Okaloosa County, Fla will pound the pavement Wednesday, March 27, 2013 during the annual "Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics."
There are two routes planned for this year's run. One is in Crestview and the other is Fort Walton Beach.
Runners will meet in the Publix parking lot at the intersection of Highway 85 near Redstone Avenue at 8:00 a.m. An hour later, they will take off travelling down Highway 85 to the Vietnam War Memorial near Commerce Drive.
A second group of runners will meet in Fort Walton Beach in the Publix parking lot on Racetrack road near Eglin Parkway. The group will run down Eglin Parkway to Brooks Street and Highway 98. The run will end at Brooks Landing.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says, the runners will be on the right hand lane of the road and ask motorist to be extra careful in the area.
The annual torch run aims to raise money for the Special Olympics and show support of its athletes.
Mobile Police are investigating an apparent shooting that left two people dead and one person injured. Witnesses say it happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Campus Quarters Apartments on University Boulevard.
