Are you ready to shake, rattle, and roll with Elvis? The King is making his return to Mobile at the "Tribute to Elvis Gala" Friday, October 19, 2012 in the ballroom of the downtown Holiday Inn, which is located at 301 Government St.
Limited tickets go on sale this week for the Mobile County Bicentennial event that will include Elvis food, like cheeseburger sliders, and an Elvis impersonator show by Shane Tucker, a local Elvis tribute artist with a long resume of performances on the Gulf Coast.
An Elvis musical evening will be provided courtesy of DJ Glenn Normand with a background laser light show by Mike Dorsett. Festivities start at 7:00pm and will also include a 1950's costume contest, blue suede shoes optional, with prizes for the winners. A cash bar and heavy hors d'ouevres will be offered. Tickets are $25 per person and are tax-deductible. The event is open to the public.
The evening is a tribute to Elvis in honor of his contributions to Mobile County. The real Elvis Presley made many trips to the Mobile, and sold out many venues in the area.
The Mobile County Bicentennial Commission is hosting the event. This is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization formed to lead the celebrations for the county's 200th birthday year.
Upcoming events include a Veteran's Day concert on November 11 at the new Mobile County Bicentennial Pavilion being erected now in Medal of Honor Park. The concert is free and open to the public. On November 15, the Bicentennial Commission will hold a leadership luncheon recognizing outstanding individuals in the community.
A final community-wide birthday bash is planned for the afternoon of Saturday, December 15, at the downtown Cruise Terminal. It will be a family event featuring a Mobile Marketplace of local vendors and craftspeople, a Children's village, a youth stage, the fabulous Tip Tops band, and 2,012 birthday cupcakes. The birthday party is free and open to the public.
Mobile County will officially turn 200 on December 18, 2012. For more information about the Bicentennial celebration, visit www.celebratemobilecounty.org, like us on Facebook, or call 251-574-9064.
