EIGHT MILE, Alabama (WALA) - An apparent murder-suicide in Mobile County puts investigators to work and neighbors wondering how it happened. The bodies of John Uptagraft and Patricia Evans were discovered on Rosemary Road in the Eight Mile community Thursday morning.
Neighbors were surprised to hear the news.
An ambulance left the home with its sirens silenced. Even still, the scene caught the eye of nearby residents.
"They just called me and said something was going on here at John's," said Robert Chunn.
Uptagraft owned the business John's Transmissions. It was located on the property.
A man leaving the crime scene locked up the gate leading to the garage and declined to comment.
Neighbors said Uptagraft was a good mechanic and neighbor.
"Awe yeah, real nice fella. Nice as he could be. Had no idea nothing been going on," said Frank Singleton. "He does our transmission. This is very unexpected."
A green minivan with Baldwin County tags was towed from the scene.
