MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Since early November, some west Mobile residents have had issues with their curbside recycling pick-up service.
The frustration for most recyclers began when Newark Recovery and Recycling sold its curbside service to Greenie in a Bottle Recycling LLC on November 5.
Before the sale, Newark Recovery and Recycling offered free paper and cardboard pickup to nearly 14,000 homes. Now, Greenie in a Bottle says it will be charging for curbside pick-up.
In a statement the company's owner said:
"Due to circumstances beyond Greenie In A Bottle Recycling LLC's control, coupled by the apparent confusion of the adjusted free paper collection schedule, Effective 12/4, Greenie In A Bottle Recycling LLC's free paper collection program will discontinue."
In addition to the charge, some West Mobile residents say their recyclables have not been picked up in nearly a month and they have not received clear communication about about the schedule and cost changes.
