Hatching the Past at the Exploreum

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

It's hard to believe the largest animals to walk the earth hatched from eggs like any chicken or song bird. You can wrap your mind around that amazing fact at the Gulf Coast Exploreum and their new display called "Hatching the Past".

Education manager, Wes Burton, told us, "So many exhibits that do involve dinosaur eggs and fossils and artifacts are all under glass."

Not this exhibit though. A lot of it is meant to be touched so there's a real hands-on learning experience.

"The kids get a really unique opportunity to touch casts of real dinosaur eggs," Burton said. "We have over a hundred real and 100 casts."

You can't get more hands in than actually becoming a dinosaur. You can do that as well, with a tail and all.

Dino Day Saturday 2/27

Saturday extra exhibits and fun stations are being added around the Exploreum. You'll be able to make leaf-eaters salad and sample dinosaur breath for what's being billed as "Dino Day" to celebrate the new exhibit.

Floor manager Nathan Campbell told us, "We're adding to what we already have but giving a simple twist to it to make it a lot more fun. "

It should be egg-citing...

Details

"Dino Day" is Saturday, February 28th from 10 to 2. Admission is $10 for kids and $12 adults. The "Hatching the Past" exhibit will be on display until May 10th.
