AeroFest helping wounded warriors

Posted: Updated:

It's a cause we can all get behind: helping wounded warriors find purpose and peace in their lives. For Lex McMahon, COO of Titan Fighting, it's a cause close to his Marine veteran heart.

He told us, "The numbers are staggering about veteran suicide, 22 a day, 8,000 a year, 90,000 since 9-11."

McMahon is helping charitable organizations combat this tragedy, by getting wounded veterans mobile and engaged in life.

AeroFest at the Aeroplex

That's where a new event in Mobile comes in. The AeroFest at Brookley Aeroplex will be fun with a purpose. Steve Barshov, cofounder of AeroFest, told us the idea grew from a humble thought.

He said, "It went from a few bands on a stage, to four stages with national acts and Titan fights and a career fair, and an expo, and adaptive equipment, and everything kind of rolled together. And it was pretty much a whirlwind."

The AeroFest will take place on a 20 acre field next to the Aeroplex. They expect about 15,000 people to come to the festival to hear headlining acts Big and Rich and Matisyahu.

More Than Just Music

Mixed in with the fun will be education. A medal of valor exhibit will showcase the sacrifices made to earn the highest honor in our country. Norm "Frenchie" LaFountaine takes the exhibit around the country.

He told us, "It is all about our kids growing up knowing that this country just didn't happen. It comes through sacrifice."

Event Details

The proceeds of the event will go to four charities that help wounded warriors. Organizers plan on this becoming an annual event in the Port City.

The Aerofest will be March 20 and 21. A two-day general admission ticket costs $45. You can find a list of the acts and details of the festival itself at:
