With signs in hand, more than 20 church families from across the area met on the Eastern Shore Sunday night to take their powerful  message to the streets of Daphne. They hope by coming together they can break down barriers and promote a "Path to Peace."

"This is a march where we are trying to come together to show unity -- leaving out denominations - the black, the white, but just coming together as being Christ-like people loving each other and trying to bridge the gap," said Pastor Bennie Richardson, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Foley.

"To have an opportunity to be together, which is kind of a great starting point - we are going transcend some of the divisions we have and to transcend some of the stereotypes we make. If we can't be together and begin with that... What can we do," said Rev. Chris Peters, Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Starting from two different locations, the walkers met at the Daphne Civic Center -- a symbol of unity to encourage an end to the violence and unrest, not only locally but around the world.

"Right now it just seems like there is a lot of discord going on in the world - not only in our community right here but there is a lot of violence, which does not need to be," said Thomas Warner, III.

"We want this to be something that the world will see... That we can come together and begin to live in harmony," said Henry Crawford.

Praying for change, they believe together -- they're stronger.

"It's awesome because this is the way God created us to be," said Rife Stewart.

While it began in Daphne, organizers say the "Path to Peace" will continue with other walks around Mobile County.

Following the march, the churches had a fellowship at the Daphne Civic Center then joined for a worship service.
