WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Major League Baseball honored victims of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, by having its teams wear caps with the school's initials during their spring openers. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School baseball coach Todd Fitz-Gerald and his sons were guests of the Houston Astros, and other baseball and softball players from the school were welcomed by the Miami Marlins, where they mingled with players and team CEO Derek Jeter.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) - Tiger Woods is four shots behind going into the weekend at a windy Honda Classic where just about everyone has a chance. Luke List had a 4-under 66 in the morning and Jamie Lovemark had a 69 in the afternoon to share the lead.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Anthony Davis had 45 points, 17 rebounds, five blocked shots and five steals, and the New Orleans Pelicans extended their winning streak to four by outlasting Miami 124-123 in overtime. Jrue Holiday finished with 29 points and nine assists and Ian Clark scored a season-high 21 for New Orleans.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville owner Shad Khan has given two-year extensions to coach Doug Marrone, executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin and general manager Dave Caldwell. All three had two years remaining on their deals, which now will run through the 2021 season. The Jaguars last season won the AFC South for the first time in franchise history, made the playoffs for the first time in a decade and advanced to the AFC title game for the first time since 2000.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran running back Chris Ivory. He was ineffective and then inactive late in the season. Ivory averaged 3.4 yards a carry. He finished with 382 yards and a touchdown on the ground last season. He was inactive for four of Jacksonville's final five games. Cutting Ivory will save the Jaguars $3.6 million in salary-cap space in 2018.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's postseason resume is about as shaky as the team's shooting right now. The Gators have lost three in a row and six of eight in league play. Little has gone right since early January. And now coach Mike White's team is in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. No one would be surprised to see the Gators falter at this point.
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Denis Shapovalov of Canada beat American Taylor Fritz in straight sets at the Delray Beach Open to earn the second semifinal berth of his career. The 18-year-old Shapovalov lost only five points on his first serve and was never broken.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Miami guard Bruce Brown Jr. is scheduled to have his injured left foot re-evaluated by doctors on March 12, which means he will miss the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. Brown's availability for the start of the NCAA Tournament on March 13 is unlikely. He underwent surgery on Feb. 1. The Hurricanes are 4-3 without their star guard.
