MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

The City of Mobile has issued a notice of violation against a Dauphin Street business.

The city says was advertising itself as a Gentleman's Club.

City officials say they were made aware that "Club Xcite" on Dauphin Street was planning to hire exotic dancers.

They say that violates city code and could result in a fine or being shut down by police if such activities took place.

Laura Byrne with the City of Mobile said, "Under city code, you have to be a certain distance away from schools, from parks, from churches, and the heart of downtown is not a place that fits in for this type of operation."

Byrne says the Planning and Zoning Department has talked to officials with Club Xcite, and they were told the business is sending the city what she called a detailed scope of operations which the department would review.

Latausha Taylor, the general manager of the club, told Fox10 News by phone the business is not a strip club, is in full compliance with city code, and does not have nudity.

She confirmed the club will talk with city officials.
