After your injury, hiring a lawyer to handle your injury claim can seem like an intimidating prospect. David Greene from Greene & Phillips joined us on Studio10 to help explain exactly what to expect when you contact an injury lawyer.
The following questions and answers below were provided by Greene & Phillips:
David, what should someone expect when they first contact a lawyer about their injury or wreck?
One someone calls our firm, one of our intake specialists will get your name and phone number and some details about your accident, then if you’re already at the office, either I or one of our excellent attorneys will sit down with you to let you explain the accident and your injuries. From there he’ll be able to give you advice as to how to proceed. This meeting is confidential and completely free. If we can think we can help you, and you hire us, we’ll get to work immediately.
What about those who are injured too badly or maybe their car is totaled and don’t have transportation to get to your office?
We can come to you at your house or at the hospital, it doesn’t matter. Just tell us when you call that you can’t come in, and we’d be glad to come to you. For clients who live in other areas, they can even consult with one of our attorneys over the phone, and we can send them paperwork through the mail.
What’s the cost for hiring a personal injury lawyer?
Personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee, that means we get paid a percentage of the final settlement or verdict amount. So you won’t owe us a dime, unless they get money for their case.
After a client signs up, what should they then expect as far as medical treatment and getting a settlement?
First, they need to get better, the client should ask their doctor or chiropractor what are the steps to fully recover. If they can’t afford a doctor or haven’t seen one, we can often set up a letter of protect that allows our clients to receive treatment and have those bills paid out of the final settlement. This can be a big relief for a client who is already cash-strapped because of the accident.
What exactly goes into getting a case settled?
Once you’ve completed your recovery and we’ve assembled your file, then the attorney will start negotiations with the insurance company. The client has final say on any settlement number, but you’ll have the advice and experience of someone who’s settled many many cases just like yours.
How can someone contact you if they think they may have a case?
Call 300-2000 or come by anytime. You never need an appointment.
