MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) -

Representative John Lewis will be in Mobile County Friday.

The congressman will attend a campaign event with Democratic Senate candidate Doug Jones. The Jones campaign says it's having a fish fry at the William "Bill" Clark Family Life Center at 2501 West Main St. in Prichard. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Lewis represents Georgia's 5th Congressional District. He was born in Troy, Alabama and became an icon of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. Lewis organized student sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, participated in the Freedom Rides, and was a lead marcher in the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March.

As a former U.S. Attorney, Jones is best known for successfully prosecuting members of the KKK responsible for killing four young black girls in the 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Church bombing in Birmingham.
