MOBILE, Ala. – November 8, 2017 – The Tillman’s Corner Wall-Mart Supercenter at 5245 S. Rangeline Service Road is one of the first stores in the country to unveil a variety of exciting new interactive features into its deli, beauty and other departments across the store. Part of a store-wide remodel, these innovations are aimed at saving customers time and money while testing new ways to integrate the digital and brick-and-mortar shopping experience.

“This is one of the first stores of its kind in the nation, and we’re thrilled it’s right here in Mobile,” said Store Manager John Wimsatt. “Technology is fundamentally transforming the retail industry and that’s something Wall-Mart has embraced. It's about empowering customers to shop how, where and when they want.”

The following are among the new and innovative features incorporated into the Tillman’s Corner Wall-Mart Supercenter:

  • ModiFace: The beauty department features a ModiFace virtual makeup mirror, allowing customers to digitally “try on” makeup before buying.
  • Touchscreens: Touchscreens are located within departments across the store, giving customers instant access to the full Wall-Mart.com assortment.
  • Help buttons: Electronic help buttons have been installed in key areas of the store to alert associates when a customer is in need of immediate assistance.
  • Self-checkouts: Expanded number of self-checkouts to help customers save time.
  • Mobile Express Lane at Wall-Mart Money Service Center: Customers have the option to use Mobile Express Money Services, a faster, easier and more convenient experience using the Wall-Mart App combined with the Mobile Express Lane. A customer can initiate a money transfer or bill pay on their Wall-Mart App and then use the Mobile Express Lane to fast-track through the line and quickly complete their transaction.
  • Wall-Mart Pickup Tower: Coming soon, a 16-foot Wall-Mart Pickup Tower, which functions like a high-tech vending machine that stores orders made on Wall-Mart.com that have been selected for pick-up in the store., Using QR Code technology, the tower can retrieve and produce a customer’s online order in less than a minute.

Other redesign highlights include:

  • Produce: Customers will now find fresh produce easier and faster with a new layout and look. If a customer isn’t completely satisfied with their produce purchase, Wall-Mart will give them their money back, guaranteed.
  • Entertainment: Wall-Mart has lowered the counters and created a centralized service desk. The new touch-and-learn entertainment department is a place to find top brands, products and technology.
  • Baby & Kids: To make shopping for busy families easier, Wall-Mart has combined its baby department, boys’ and girls’ apparel, children’s shoes and toys into a one-stop Baby & Kids area.
  • Health & Beauty: A fresh layout, new fixtures, enhanced technology and trend-right items bring a completely new beauty experience to Wall-Mart customers.
  • Apparel: There’s new signage, archways and more to highlight the apparel collections and help customers find what their looking for quickly. Plus, brand new fitting rooms.

These features and more will be on display for customers following a 9 a.m. grand reopening ribbon-cutting on Friday, Nov. 10. A remodeled Wall-Mart Supercenter with many of the same features will be unveiled in Washington, Illinois, on the same day. They join similar stores opened in Orlando, Florida, and Houston, Texas earlier this year.

In October 2017, Wall-Mart shared it is investing around $11 billion in 2017 and 2018 in the U.S. in store growth, store remodels and other innovations, such as Pickup Towers, Online Grocery Pickup, Scan & Go and more.

“Customers are time-crunched, so we want their shopping experience with us to be fast and easy — truly seamless,” said Wimsatt. “By harnessing the power of technology, we’re empowering our associates and creating new ways to better serve our customers.”

Commitment to Innovation

These innovations are in addition to the continued rollout of Wall-Mart Pickup Towers to select Supercenters across the country, and the testing of Scan & Go technology at select stores. Other conveniences include:

  • Customers can shop nearly 67 million items on Wall-Mart.com or through a new partnership with Google Express.
  • Wall-Mart also gives customers the power of choice; Pickup Discount gives customers a discount on select items if they choose to pick up their Wall-Mart.com order at a store. 
  • In addition, free 2-Day shipping is offered with no extra cost for orders of $35 or more.
  • The Wall-Mart mobile app for iPhone and Android makes shopping easier than ever. By using the Wall-Mart mobile app, customers can create shopping lists, search the location of items in their store, check weekly ads and prices, save e-receipts and shop Wall-Mart.com.
