Toi Thornton was born and raised in The Big Easy, New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree from Dillard University in Mass Communication with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism in 2014. While pursuing his undergraduate studies, Toi began his news career in New Orleans as an intern at WDSU (NBC) and a production assistant at FOX 8 WVUE.
Furthering his educational goals, Toi graduated from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida with a Masters of Arts in New Media Journalism in 2016 while working full-time as a reporter.
Toi comes to FOX 10 from Lafayette, Louisiana where he worked at News 15, formerly KLAF and FOX 15, the FOX and NBC affiliate. During his tenure he matriculated through every shift. He started off as weekend/dayside reporter and after 5 weeks of weekends, he was moved to Monday through Fridays. He then moved to mornings and after months as morning reporter, he was promoted to Fox Anchor. During his tenure in Lafayette, Toi covered a plethora of stories from the 100 year flood in Louisiana to the fire at the old Louisiana governor’s mansion to a special he did about Louisiana’s disappearing dance halls.
Toi prides himself on the way he dresses, sporting blazers and suits of all kinds and always looking to update his style. One of his trademarks is the bowtie, while he may not always have one on, he’ll always have one handy.
When Toi isn’t at work you can find him at church, hanging out with friends, or at home enjoying dessert and watching shows on Netflix. Toi is excited to continue his passion of telling stories on the gulf coast and is eager to learn and experience all that Mobile has to offer.
“As we say in New Orleans, ‘laissez bon temps rouler,’ let the good times roll!”
