A traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian will spend the next few weeks in the Mobile River Delta.

The Water/Ways Exhibition takes a look at water's essential component of life on our planet, environmentally, culturally, and historically. In societies across the globe, water serves as a source of peace and contemplation. Many faiths revere water as a sacred symbol.

Authors and artists are inspired by the complex character of water - a substance that is seemingly soft and graceful that is yet a powerful and nearly unstoppable force. Some of that work is now on display at the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.

Hank Burch, the manager of 5 Rivers, said, "We asked artists from all over Mobile and Baldwin counties to bring some of their best work in. We have about 160 pieces on display along with the exhibit. So we gave folks the opportunity to hang stuff with the Smithsonian."

5 Rivers is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Water/Ways is open through January 5. Admission is free.
