Authorities and the family of the victim in the Westchester Drive shooting tell FOX10 News there has been an arrest in the case.
Police say the woman, 45-year-old Shannon Montgomery, was found dead in a yard on Westchester Drive in Tillman's Corner Monday afternoon.
Neighbors say the victim had an argument with a man about a cell phone. They say a dog that was trying to protect the woman was also shot.
Police say the dog is expected to be OK. A friend of the victim released this statement:
“Shannon was an absolutely beautiful person inside and out. She always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was devoted to her family, her friends, and her pets. She will be greatly missed by many people.”
The family says police told them Nathaniel McCorvey had been arrested for the murder.
Records at Mobile County Metro Jail show McCorvey, 20, was booked on murder, robbery and kidnapping charges shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday. In the last 5 months, McCorvey has been booked into Metro three times. Back in October, he was booked on a warrant out of Baton Rouge.
FOX10 reached out to the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's Office. Officials told us McCorvey was charged with possession of meth and resisting an officer in January.
His warrant was for not showing up in court. According to jail records, McCorvey stayed in jail for two days, but was released. It is unclear why.
A few months before that arrest, McCorvey was booked for probation revocation and spent two months in Metro.
