MPD Overnight Recap: Man choked woman until she passed out

This is a part of the daily crime report distributed by the Mobile Police Department. These crimes occurred December 5-6, 2017. 

Receiving Stolen Property 4th / No Pistol Permit / Possession of Marijuana 2nd / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

On Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at approximately 8:53 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop in the area of McVay Drive and Winwood Drive. During the traffic stop, officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, 19-year-old Marcus Seals, was in possession of a small bag of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun that was reported stolen. Seals was arrested.

Domestic Violence (Strangulation)

On Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at approximately 8:53 p.m. police responded to Rodeway Inn in reference to a domestic incident. The victim stated Benjamin Hoven, 30, got angry and jumped on top of her and choked her until she lost consciousness. Benjamin Hoven was arrested.

Robbery 1st

On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at approximately 12:20 a.m. police responded to 3200 block of Dauphin Street in reference to a robbery complaint. The victim stated she was walking in the area of Dauphin Street at the I-65 southbound ramp when an unknown vehicle stopped, brandished a weapon, demanded her property and fled.
