Apple Buys Shazam
Hey Siri, what's that song? On Monday, Apple confirmed that it's buying Shazam, a popular music recognition service.
The deal is pending final approval. At $400 million-dollars, Shazam would be one of Apple's largest acquisitions ever.
Shazam, which was founded in 1999, continues to have broad appeal for anyone who finds themselves in a bar or house wondering what song is playing in the room. Last year, the company said its app had been downloaded more than one billion times.
For Apple, Shazam could further differentiate its music streaming service, personal assistant Siri and its new line of smart speakers, which are expected to hit the market next year to compete with Amazon and Google.
New Emoji's on Pixel phones
Google is going full Snapchat with new AR Stickers! Some of the options include Stranger Things and Star Wars themed versions.
The previously announced feature launched Monday. To get started with AR Stickers, all you have to do is open up the Pixel camera app and switch to the dedicated AR Stickers mode.
From there you can choose a sticker pack, select a specific sticker...like Eleven or that Demogorgon creature...and then move the virtual object into the desired position.
The feature works on the original Pixel models as well as on the more recent Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones; the latest phones are better calibrated to exploit AR.
Sharper Image Pizza Box Oven
What do you get when technology and the love for a hot steaming slice of pizza collide -- how about this pizza box oven?
The Pizza box oven, does what the name implies -- only it cuts down on the wait. It is, indeed, shaped like a pizza box. But instead of carrying pizza, it cooks your pizza, in less time than it takes to pre-heat your oven. It shuts off automatically when the pizza is ready.
The box has two cooking elements - one above, the other below - to create pizza that's crispy on the bottom and cheesy on the top. The pan rotates for even cooking - and is non-stick so it makes for even easier cleanup. And it can make any kind of pizza, from homemade to frozen - and even keep your slices warm when the baking is done.
