MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

There separate accidents occurred on the Bayway Tuesday and law enforcement say the fog is to blame. Dense fog covered Mobile and surrounding areas, putting plenty of drivers on high alert.

Semmes resident, Joyce Wright, said, "It's terrible. It's so terrible and foggy. If I would've known it was this foggy, we wouldn't of left Semmes, Alabama."

Mobile resident, Kirk Collier, said, "It was real heavy this morning. You have to just drive slow."

The thick clouds made it difficult for drivers to see just a few feet ahead, causing multiple wrecks on the Bayway.

"You can't drive fast out here in this fog because ain't no telling what will run out on you. A car, a dog, anything could run out on you and then you'll have a wreck. So you gotta be careful," Collier said.

Bayway traffic was redirected to the causeway as crews worked to clear the scenes. Some drivers became optimistic as the fog started to lift a little Tuesday afternoon, but they also know this weather phenomenon is a part of life here on the Gulf Coast.

"I'm local. I've been here all my life and sometimes you just have to grin and bear it," Wright said.

So far, no major injuries have been reported.

Fox 10 News is committed to keeping you safe at all times. Keep the following tips in mind as you travel: use your low-beam lights when driving through thick fog, drive slow, and give yourself plenty of room to react.
