SEMMES, AL (WALA) -

An explosion in Semmes injured three people Thursday afternoon.

Investigators believe the blast happened as the result of some homemade fireworks. It happened at a home on Winchester Drive West around 1 p.m. That's close to Mary G. Montgomery High School.

All three of the victims were taken to USA Medical Center. Information on their conditions has not been released, but we're told the victims have severe burns. Two of them were rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

Along with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office and Semmes Fire-Rescue, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Alabama Fire Marshal's Office are investigating. Those two state agencies are leading the investigation.

Police tape surrounded the home's driveway even after investigators left. In the backyard, our cameras caught a plastic table flipped over and torn apart.

A neighbor tells FOX10 News that she heard a loud boom and saw a man frantically trying to take his shirt off.

"At this point in the investigation, we believe this incident was the result of some sort of homemade fireworks or fireworks device," said Jennifer Bowen, the Public Information Officer for the State Fire Marshal's Office. "We are looking into the incident, along with the ATF and local officials."

FOX10 News will update this story as more information becomes available.
