CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Store owner: Man steals and urinates inside gas station

Posted: Updated:

The Mobile Police Department and the owner of a local convenience store need your help catching a theft suspect. The suspect was caught in the act taking items and even urinating inside the Raceway Gas Station on Government Boulevard last Friday, they say.

MPD said, "On Saturday, December 23, 2017, police responded to the Raceway located at 3051 Government Blvd in reference to a subject stealing beer and wine on the prior evening."

According to the owner, Mike Iqbal he is offering a $200 reward for any information. Iqbal doesn't understand why someone would steal, let alone vandalize his property.

Iqbal said, "I would be more than happy to help someone who is in need, but you know don't come and steal." Surveillance footage appears to show the suspect walking into the back cooler and urinating on the floor. "This door says restroom behind the cashier, there is no need for a customer to go in (the cooler)" said Iqbal.

The suspect then walks up the cooler.

MPD added, "The subject then took several beers and wine and pocketed them without paying." Surveillance footage shows the suspect taking wine and putting it into his pockets, then stops to grab two cans of beer, but that's not all.

Iqbal said, "While he was heading out he grabbed a bag of chips." According to Iqbal, the cashier was too busy to stop the suspect, but an outside camera shows the man getting into the passenger side of a car. Another man drives them away from the store.

Iqbal added, "You know one you go and steal then you vandalize, then someone has to go clean up and then move the products, it's just not nice." The store plans to add locks to the entrance of the cooler because of the crime.

MPD said no arrests have been made. MPD Spokeswoman Charlette Solis said the suspect is facing theft and disorderly conduct charges.

If you have any information you can contact police of the Iqbal for the cash reward.
