Celebrate the new year with a run, family fun, parties, fireworks and the Polar Bear Plunge! There are plenty of New Year's activities going on at the South's premiere roadhouse, the iconic Flora-Bama.
The 30th Annual Make It to the Line 4 Mile Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run takes place Dec. 30, 2017 at 10 a.m., for those wishing to shed a few pounds of holiday cheer. A portion of proceeds goes to Secret Santa, Inc. Pre-Registration is $30 and goes up to $35 Dec. 29 and 30. The price includes a T-shirt, food and beverages at the post-race party. Expect a great performance by Jo Jo Pres, along with trophies 3-deep in all age categories, male and female, for both the run and walk.
New Year's Eve Celebrations are slated for Dec. 31, 2017 on both sides of the road. The gulf-side lounge will feature a sumptuous, buffet from 7-12 p.m, fireworks at midnight, breakfast sandwiches 12:30-3 a.m., a champagne split to each person 21 and older, party favors, souvenir huggers, live music on three stages, including Big Earl (Jack Robertson), Oliver's Twist, Perdido Brothers, Foxy Iguanas, Jo Jo Pres, and the Mario Mena Band. Tickets are $40 in advance plus an additional $10 at the door for 18-20 year olds.
The Ole River Grill will also bring its own brand of New Year's Fun at 6 p.m. during the 1st Annual Mullet Drop at midnight with Big Earl counting down the New Year. A $20 advanced ticket gets you door prizes, champagne, a bodacious buffet from 7-10 p.m. and a great time with music by Oliver's Twist.
Join an exquisite New Year's Eve dining experience next door at the Yacht Club, the Bama's five-star, flip-flop casual fine dining eatery. There's no cover charge and reservations are recommended for the special New Year's Eve menu.
New Year's Day on Jan. 1, 2018, crowds will hit the beach at the crack of noon for the 34th Annual Polar Bear Dip. This free event brings in the New Year Flora-Bama style. Souvenir towels and T-Shirts will be available in the Gift Shop. All participants jumping in the icy Gulf will be rewarded with a traditional bowl of steaming black-eyed peas, collard greens, ham and cornbread, along with a draft beer or soda. Enjoy live music and all of your favorite Bowl games featured on more than 50-HD TVs throughout the Bama along with sit down lunch specials just across street at the Ole River Grill.
