Mobile mother who was shot and killed leaves behind 4 children

Posted: Updated:

We're learning more details about a Mobile woman who was shot and killed in broad daylight Tuesday. Police identified the victim as 32-year-old Mercedes Jackson.

We talked to a childhood friend of Jackson. Jamiah Hunter said Jackson was a loving mom who will be missed by many.

"They family…they family..it's just mind-blowing," said Hunter.

Hunter and her family haven't slept after learning her childhood friend was murdered. Hunter grew up in the same neighborhood where Jackson was shot and killed.

MPD said Jackson was in a car on Linwood Drive when she was shot. She died just one block over on Gulf Field Drive West near a family member's home. Hunter said Jackson was a cheerful person, where there was never a dull moment together.

"She was a wonderful person inside and out, she never, never seen her frown, you never seen her upset or frown. She always had a smile on her face. Did everything for her family" said Hunter.

Hunter said Jackson was a family oriented woman who had two sets of twins, three boys, and one girl, all who were attached to their mother.

She said, "She's always with her kids, her kids with her. When you see them, you see her, when you see her, you see them."

Hunter can't believe the kids have to face life without their devoted mom.

"She used to bring them up in the morning time, pick them up in the afternoon." Hunter continued, "They were well dressed, well kept up, all that good stuff, and now it's just there mom is gone. We are going to be there to help them and make them push through this hard time because it's going to be hard."

Friends said Jackson is a person they won't forget. "Her legacy going to live on, the kids are going to be ok, as long as we keep them content, and try to pray pray pray," said Hunter.

MPD said no arrests have been made, but police did tell FOX10 News they believe they know who shot Jackson. Police are still gathering evidence and want to hear from anyone who may have information about what happened.
