Foley Police need your help catching a burglar they said broke into three businesses in the same night along Highway 59. He was caught in the act on security cameras at one of those businesses. Police said the motive appears to be the same in all three cases, breaking glass to get in and then rummaging through desks.
“My employee was the first one here…Tim, and he called me and said, ‘Hey, it’s not so good of a morning.’ I was like, why and he was like, we’ve been broken into,” said owner of Service Master Clean, Tina Burdine.
A broken glass door and messy office greeted her and her employees Thursday morning, January 3, 2018. Fortunately, her security cameras caught the suspect rummaging through desks and shelves, providing pretty clear images and a good lead for police.
“Some of the things if you could look at is particularly the facial hair on this suspect as seen on the video and some of the clothing that he’s wearing,” said Sgt. Glenn Hartenstein with Foley Police.
Police were soon made aware of two other burglaries that happened very close by. Wesco Gas and Welding Supply had a window broken out and the office rummaged through. The same happened just up the road at Kitchen Bath Floors and More. Surveillance video from the other thefts lead police to believe it’s the same suspect.
“On all three burglaries it appears that the offender was rummaging through desk drawers and cabinets,” Hartenstein said. “At this point, we still haven’t got an inventory of everything that was taken from the businesses. It’s still an active investigation.”
Just like police, the business owners want the suspect caught. Burdine wants more than justice for the burglar. She wants to see him get help for what might be troubling him.
“I have more compassion than anything for the individual,” said Burdine. “There’s several areas out there that can help you. If you’re down on your luck and need some cash…people that can help you out with that. If you’re dependent on something, there’s programs for that.”
If you think you recognize the suspect in the video or saw anything out of the ordinary overnight between Wednesday night, January 3 and Thursday, January 4 in the area of these business, you’re asked to call Foley Police at 251-943-4431.
