DAUPHIN ISLAND, AL (WALA) -

The holiday season continue to roll which means the gulf coast is rolling right into carnival season.

Revelers on Dauphin Island have just three days to get ready for the annual bead and moonPie street party and preps are already underway.

"We actually took our Christmas decorations off our tree and decorated it back with Mardi Gras stuff," Brenda Cockrell said in laughter.

The first krewe to roll is the Krewe De La Dauphine.

"The last couple of years we've had over 40,000 people attend our parade," Karen Simmons said.

Simmons with KDLD says the increasing number of revelers on the street is also increasing the number of parade participants. Simmons says there will be 52 units in the parade, and this year's theme is "Faces Behind the Mask". Simmons says each float is decorated within the theme and there's always unique, personal flare.

Island revelers say they're ready to make some good catches with their families.

"My favorite thing is meeting new customers, seeing new faces and just the excitement of watching kids out there," Cockrell said.

"I have a family so bringing my daughter out here for the parades, I may be working but that doesn't mean they can't have a good time," James Howard said.

The parade route starts at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and rolls at 1 p.m.
