Residents react to arrest in Higby murder

MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

News of an arrest in the murder of 89-year-old John Higby spread like wildfire today. Many people in Mobile happy about the news.

Many of the people we spoke to today didn't want to speak on camera but they were happy about the news. One woman in Dauphin square shopping center said her prayers were answered.

"A lot of us have been praying about this, so we're glad," said a woman.

Others happy the alleged killer is no longer in the public. All in all its clear that Higby's murder sent shock waves throughout the community. Many people voicing their opinions on social media as well as verbally. This death was especially hard because it happened to an elderly man in broad daylight.

Angelo Pope says he frequents Higby's neighborhood quite often. He says he lives in fear of things like this.

"I'm glad they caught the killer. Made me feel good," said Pope. "I see a lot of things happen out here, then it shouldn't happen. But the devil is busy. That's all I can say."

We spoke to a neighbor of the Higby family. She says the family needs prayers and privacy during this difficult time.
