Wet weather doesn't put a damper on King Felix III's arrival

Posted: Updated:

Today's cold and wet weather wasn't enough to stop people from gathering at Cooper Riverside Park for King Felix III's arrival.

King Felix III and his royal court traveled out to the mythical Isle of Joy Monday morning and returned to a crowd of people eager to meet the group of royalty.

Mobile Mayor, Sandy Stimpson, presented this year's king, Parker Shearer, with a golden key to the city and declared the start of his official reign in front of his queen, Lucy Mostellar.

The king and queen both say they're proud to continue a tradition that's been in their families for generations.

"I'm loving it. I really am loving it. It's not everyday that you get this kind of attention. So i'm soaking it in while I can," Shearer said.

Mostellar said "As a little kid, we're running around at parades and climbing on floats and having a great time. And now you know, we're dressed up in suits and heels and just having an awesome time. It's so great."

After the ceremony, King Felix and his knights took their place on the royal float in the Floral parade.
