Some families enjoying weather amid Mardi Gras

Posted: Updated:

We've seen the big crowds fill the streets for Mardi Gras, but others chose to avoid the busy areas. The people we talked to say the great weather was just another reason to enjoy some relaxing downtime, instead of getting stuck in the crowds.

Today's beautiful day is the perfect weather to celebrate Fat Tuesday, but some families took this day off to avoid revelers. Some families spent the day at the Medal of Honor park instead. Katie Land said, "We are celebrating…but here..where its less chaotic and the little guy who is only three can have more private time and personal attention."

Some Mobile natives didn't feel they were missing out on the celebrations. Janice Santana said, "It's fun once in awhile, but I prefer see him have fun, and they have more fun at the park than at Mardi Gras." Angeleena Beard added, "I can go to the store and buy beads and a box of moon pies and its not worth the fight."

People from out of town told FOX10 they just didn't have any more room for one more parade. Carly Byrd said, "Honestly I can't fit any more beads in my suite case, so I thought a park on a sunny day would be the best choice."

For a lot of the people the sunny day was the perfect excuse to spend time with family. One family said, "She's been rolling around in the house because of the rain." Another family continued, "It just the first sunny day so we decided to come out to park and let our daughter play after we exercised."

Most of the people we talked to preferred to celebrate the parades on a day when its not as crowded like it is on Fat Tuesday.
