Video shows brawl in mall

Posted: Updated:

A video posted on social media is gaining a lot of attention. We're told it shows a brawl that took place inside the Shoppes at Bel Air over the weekend.

It appears the fight started in the middle of the mall near the tables and chairs between a small group of people.

In the video, several moments later, more people get involved and start to push and throw punches at each other. During the video people attempt to stop the fight. Towards the end of the video you can see two people fighting each other. They fall and slam into the floor where more punches are thrown.

It is unclear who was involved and what the fight was about. Within the last year we reported 3 instances where the Mobile Police Department investigated violent situations at or near the Shoppes at Bel Air.

In March of last year, Mobile police investigated a brawl outside of the entrances of the mall involving several teens. In April of 2017 during Easter Sunday, police investigated a gun battle at the mall's parking lot.

Most recently, a shooting in November near the mall where bullets hit a family's car. We asked people if they think it's safe to go to the mall after showing them the video. Julie Ogburn said back in the day it was a lot safer to go to the mall, but now she keeps her guard up.

Ogburn said, "It's happening everywhere, you know I carry my keys out between my fingers and I'm just defensive all the time." Other people told us they travel in pairs when they go shopping. Kathleen Robinson and Catherine Little said, "I wouldn't go by myself, yeah I wouldn't go by myself."

"I wouldn't be scared if I went with a friend. Yeah me too, and just the time of the day it really depends," said Robinson and Little.

Beth Elliott added, "But I always bring a friend with me. But if a fight breaks out like that. Mainly what you are dealing with is you got kids together, they are not under parent supervision, so they are going to act any way they want to that's the problem."

We reached out to mall officials and have yet to receive a response.
