FAIRHOPE, AL (WALA) -

According to officials with the Fairhope Police Department, the morning of Tuesday, March 13, a suspicious package was found on Church Street in the city, between Magnolia Street and Fairhope Avenue.

Officials say due to the presence of exposed wiring and possible battery connections, the package was being treated as potentially hazardous.

Portions of Church Street, Magnolia Avenue, and Fairhope Avenue have been re-opened. Officials say the package was examined and is not considered to be a threat.

Residents were originally asked to avoid the area which was blocked off by police.

No other areas are affected except the immediate area around Church Street.
