CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Woman steals puppy from Daphne pet store

FOX10 News is committed to putting the spotlight on people “Caught in the Act”. Each week, we work with local law enforcement to show surveillance video in the hopes you can help crack the case.

FOX10 News obtained exclusive video of a woman running out the door of a Daphne pet store while holding a puppy.

It happened on Sunday morning at The Puppy Den off US-98. The puppy was a 4-month-old Chihuahua named “Prince”.

"We are terrified. We are not sleeping,” said store co-owner, Carrie Flannery. “The thought of where he is, or what he might be going through… I just don't know that we can rest until he is safe and sound and back in our arms."

The video shows the woman backing into the handicap parking space closest to the store’s front door. She spends the next twenty minutes inside talking to an employee.

“She was holding the puppy, asking a lot of questions about him, spending a lot of time with him,” said the store’s other co-owner, Karen Hathaway. “She was basically acting like she was wanting to take the puppy home."

The woman asks the employee to turn around and grab something. In the middle of their conversation, she darts out of the door with Prince in her hands.

"You can see she nearly ran over a passerby on the sidewalk, and she threw the puppy into the passenger seat,” said Flannery.

The employee runs to try and stop her, but the woman takes off too quickly. The license plate on her car was covered.

"We are hoping that she took it as a baby for herself and that she's going to love it… and it's not for any other horrible reason,” said Hathaway. “There is still no excuse for doing that. This is a living creature. It's not like you were going in and taking a television."

Daphne Police are asking for your help in identifying this woman, but the store owners say they are more concerned with Prince. They are offering a $750 reward for anyone who can help.

"Anybody that is a family member of hers, that knows she has the dog, like I said, no questions asked. We are going to give you the reward. We just want him back,” said Hathaway.
