CAUGHT IN THE ACT: "Porch pirate" brings dog to take package in Pensacola

PENSACOLA, FL (WALA) -

FOX10 News is committed to putting the spotlight on people "Caught in the Act." Each week, we work with local law enforcement to show surveillance video in the hope you can help crack the case.

Pensacola Police are looking for a "porch pirate" who brought his furry friend along for the ride. They say it happened around 4 a.m. in the Scenic Heights area.

"This man was out walking his dog, or walking a dog, and walked up to the porch and took the package,” said Officer Mike Wood. “I would call it different. That's the first. We've had several porch pirates, but that's the first that a dog was there."

We’re told inside the package was an electric toothbrush. Officers believe it was a crime of opportunity.

The video isn't the best quality. It's hard to make out the man's face. Police took to social media for tips, making a post that reads:

“Two sure-fire to know something doesn't belong to you - it's on someone else's porch and your dog gives you ‘the look’."

"We are hoping that if someone doesn't recognize him, that they recognize this dog,” said Officer Wood. “It's kind of distinctive, and maybe a bulldog or a bulldog mix. The markings kind of stand out."

Anyone with information should call the  Pensacola Police Department at (850) 435-1900. You can also earn money by calling Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.
