Woman says it was instinct to jump out of moving car after being carjacked

Posted: Updated:
MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) -

A Theodore woman's quick thinking leaves her bruised and battered, but it may have saved her life. Twenty-two year old Rachel Corona is at home now. She's tired, but wanted to share what little she remembers in hopes of catching the man who terrorized her.

Corona said, "I just remember being scared. I'm sore but I feel better."

Scrapes and bruises cover her body, evidence of a terrifying morning she's having trouble remembering.

"I've got a concussion, obviously you can see my face and I've got bruises on my knuckles and on my knee and on my elbow and there's bruises and scrapes all over my back. My head just constantly hurts," Corona said.

Corona said she left her sister's home on Dawes Rd to head into work around 3 am.
She stopped at the red light on the corner of Cottage Hill and Pleasant Valley when a man approached her with a gun.
"I don't even remember getting into the next seat I remember being scared and I remember opening my door and that was it," Corona said.

Without thinking, she jumped out of her own car.

Just yards away from where Corona said paramedics found her unconscious, lying on the ground, they also found her deserted car on Shady Brook Dr, leading her to believe the man was after more than just her vehicle.

"Nothing was missing. My phone my purse, everything was still in my car. He had of wanted something to do with me or else he would've just kept going with my car," Corona said.

As the mother of two recuperates, she's trying to piece together the events from early Saturday morning, and can't help but question why it had to happen.

She said, "It's not something that you do to a person. It's not. It's still hard for me to believe that this even happened to me. I've never had anything like this happen. I've never been scared to drive at night. And now I can't go to work at night anymore not by myself. I'm going to be terrified to drive around anywhere."

Corona and her family are asking if you know anything, to turn it over to mobile police. Police are checking possible cameras nearby and testing her car for fingerprints.
