CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Woman's car stolen while she was just feet away at a gas station

SEMMES, AL (WALA) -

FOX10 News is committed to putting the spotlight on people “Caught in the Act”. Each week, we work with local law enforcement to show surveillance video in the hope you can help crack the case.

The Mobile County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is looking for two people who stole a car in Semmes. Video shows them taking a woman’s car while she was just feet away.

It happened on May 22 at Clark Gas Station on Lott Road and McCrary Road

“Thank goodness we have video cameras and we were able to get this. With your help and your show, we can get this out there,” said Lori Myles with MCSO.

The video shows a black car waiting at a pump near the back of the gas station. A woman pulls up to a pump nearby and goes into the store for only a couple of minutes. She left her car running.

That’s all the time the two people inside the black car needed. They pull up beside the woman’s vehicle. One person gets out and gets inside her car before they both take off. Myles believes they blocked the woman’s view with their car while they jumped inside.

"They are somewhat smart criminals because they sat in the back and they watched,” said Myles. “They are clearly waiting until nobody was in that parking lot and they timed it just perfectly. The whole moral of the story is lock your doors, even if you are going in for just a few seconds."

MCSO is not only looking for the people who took the car, but also any witnesses at the gas station who may have seen something. Myles believes this isn't the first time these two have done something like this. While the video isn't the clearest, she says any tip will help.

"Somebody knows something and saw something that night. Every little bit of clue will lead to the discovery of who these people are."
